Finding "Oreo"

It is Wednesday and it was another busy day at my job. I am still a little bit tipsy since my co-supervisor switched shift with me from being on nights and then back to morning the next day. No big deal on changing shifts because I use to do it for years but if you are not doing it for a long time, your body needs to adapt again about changing your sleep pattern.

I managed to get out of our manufacturing plant at around 5 PM and decided stop by at our favorite Asian restaurant to buy 2 satay chicken and 3 Thai iced tea. While at the restaurant waiting for my order, my mobile phone rang, it’s my daughter, I said to myself, she’s going to ask me again to buy her a combo chicken nugget. “ Dad where are you? “  She asked. “ I’m here at Green Papaya, why baby? ”  “Uhm can you come home quick please? A bit anxious and I asked, “ why? ” “ Uhm, can I go to ate Tawe’s house? “  “It’s her birthday today and kuya Vince will pick me up and nobody will take care of Oreo since nobody will be left here in our house “. “ Mama said we should not leave Oreo alone “

I said to her that we can leave Oreo alone sometimes so that Oreo can be trained being alone as long as she has her water and training potty is set up. Just two weeks from being rescued from an animal shelter, we left her alone during our Sunday church and we did not have any problem. I have a surveillance camera on our house and I can always access it on my smart phone whenever I wanted. So, Oreo is always being watched when we are at the church. I did took a peep on my phone thrice to check Oreo during our Sunday mass and she was just lying down and seems to be just sleeping. I really don’t want to open my phone while at the church but my wife asked me to do so.

I reached home and there are no cars on the driveway. I opened the door and was greeted by Oreo, cuddled her for a while, then went at the backyard to do a quick gardening before getting a shower.
Half an hour later, I went inside our house and checked Oreo. I got nervous when I saw that the metal gate that we put to keep Oreo in the living room was open. I called her name but no Oreo came to greet me as usual.

I began to panic, I rushed to the kitchen, bedrooms, nothing. I went down to the basement, still nothing. I lost a dog when I was a kid and I know how it felt to lose another one. Oreo might have followed me and sneaked out when I went to the backyard. We have a perimeter fence but there is an area that one span has a gap on it. I scanned the back, still nothing. My last area to find Oreo will be the front yard, driveway or the road. Nothing. I’m screwed. We rescued a puppy and I lost it.

I went back to our house to call my wife that I am missing Oreo. I am sure my wife will get angry and I was ready to hear unpleasant words. I was already dialing my cellphone when suddenly, I heard somebody opening the front door. It’s my eldest son and was about to ask if he saw Oreo.

He came inside, only to find out that he was with Oreo. He came home while I was at the garden. then went to a pet store with Oreo to buy something. He was in a rush to go out and I wasn’t informed that he is taking Oreo with him. I was happy, very happy, I still have the youngest member of the family…Oreo.
